The first thought that strikes your mind regarding Olympic Games, is the myth and the legend attached to the term. Though the origin of Olympic Games, is actually shrouded in mystery, still the historical data reveal that the games quickly became a rage and was considered and important event in the ancient Greece. The Olympic Games, reached its zenith in the sixth and the fifth centuries BC. In the modern Olympic Games or The Olympics is a multi sport event or occasion that has certain subdivisions like the summer and the winter sporting occasions, conducted at international level. These games are held within an interval of four years.

It is interesting to mention that proper Olympic Games was first revived by the Greek poet and the news paper editor, Panagiotis Soutsos in his poem "Dialog of the Dead" in the year 1833.
The first modern international Olympic Games was held in the year 1859. The foundation of International Olympic Committee in the year 1894 which was initiated by the French named, Pierre Frédy, Baron de Coubertin. It was in the year, 1896 that summer Olympics was held in Athens, Greece under the authoritative power of International Olympic Committee (IOC). Since then,the participation increased in the games over the years. With the advent of technology and fast improvement in the satellite communications, telecasting the events globally became much more easier than before. What led to even more popularity of the events was the consistent support of fans and sports lover from across the globe. It is also important to mention that the mos recent summer Olympics were held in the year 2004 and Winter Olympics were held in the year 2006. While the former was held in Athens, the latter was held in Turin.

The revival of the Olympic sports events got a boost in the 17th century with a sports festival by the same name of Olympic games, when it ran successfully for several years in English Cotswolds. The current day Cotswold games are a small reminiscence of the festival. Several series of games and sports followed on for the revival of the games at various places and achieved much success. However the major turning point in the development of the games came into limelight with the foundation of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in the year 1896. The number of athletes in the first IOC Olympic games was less than 250, but the games held were one of the largest international sporting event held until that time. The second Olympic games took place in Paris, France. Though the Olympics had initial run of success later on the games struggled a bit, however that was only for some time. The following years then saw a consistent rise in the number of participants and also the audience.

Though the Olympic games are much loved and the craze surrounding the game event still exists the event had its own highs and lows with many problems faced at Olympic, like doping, violence, boycotts,politics coming into picture which had to be handled by the authorities.
