At only a tender age of 11 years, Nikolai Andrianov entered Children and Youth Sports School in Burevestnik Sports society at Vladimir. Nikolai Tolkachev, the honored trainer of USSR, became the trainer of Nikolai Andrianov. He tasted his first international success in the year 1971 at European Championships, which were held in Madrid. He became first in 3 events for which he won gold medals. He came first in a number of gymnastic competitions in between 1971 to 1980. he won these competitions in different events of World Championships, Olympic Games and European Championships.
Nikolai Andrianov married his fellow gymnast, Lyubov Burda, who was also the winner of Olympics for 2 times. He was inducted to International Gymnastics hall of Fame in the year 2001. From the year 2002, Nikolai Andrianov is serving as a director in gymnastics in the Specialized Children and Youth sports school at Vladimir, his hometown.
