Larissa Latynina was first into ballet but she took gymnastics after her ballet choreographer moved to different town. She has done her high school graduation from in the year 1953. after that, she got admitted to Lenin Polytechnic Institute at Kiev. She took training in Burenestik Voluntary Sports Society. At only the age of 19, she first participated in an international event, Rome World Championships, in 1954. there in team competition, she became the winner and got gold medal.
Larissa Latynina entered Olympics in 1956 at the Summer Olympics. She had to compete with Agnes Keleti from Hungary, and Larissa Latynina won and became the most successful gymnast in the Olympics. She beat Agnes Keleti at All Around event and the team of Soviet Union also won 'team event' that year. In the finals of the event, Larissa Latynina won gold medals in vault and shared gold medal with Keleti in floor event. She won silver medal in uneven bars and the bronze medal which she won was for gymnastics with portable apparatus, which has now become a disqualified event in the Olympics. In that Olympics, Keleti won all total 6 medals, 2 silver and 4 gold medals.
Larissa Latynina was also successful at World Championships in the year 1958. you will be astonished to hear that though she was pregnant. She won five titles out of six. She became favorite in the Summer Olympics in the year 1960 which happened in Rome. She led Soviet Union in all around event and took 4 positions along with winning the team competition with a broad margin of 9 points. She also got silver medals in balance beam as well as in uneven bar. In the vault event, she came third and won bronze. She remained constant in her floor title with Gold medal.
At the World championships in 1962, she won all around titles after defeating Vera Cáslavská of Czechoslovakia but, in Summer Olympics of 1964, she was defeated by Vera Cáslavská of Czechoslovakia in all around event. Anyway, Larissa Latynina was successful in winning 2 gold medals along with wining floor and team event, both for consecutively the 3rd time. She also won silver and bronze in other categories.
The career of Larissa Latynina came to an end at 1966 in World Championships but it was not an end in true sense. She became coach for National level gymnastic team in Soviet Union.
