The 1936 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XI Olympiad, were held in 1936 in Berlin, Germany. Berlin's bid was preferred all over Barcelona by the IOC in April, 1931. Facts indicate that the then Nazi Party came to power in Germany and the government saw the Olympics as a golden opportunity to promote their Nazi ideology. The preparation for these games started in the early 1930s. Also, Hitler when he came to power used the Olympic Games as a tool for propaganda. Leni Riefenstahl, was commissioned by the International Olympic Committee to film on the Games. The film, titled Olympia, also paved the way for the opening up of techniques for the filming of sports.
The Berlin Olympics also saw the introduction of the presence of glittering ceremonies of the Olympic Torch, thereby bringing the Olympic Flame by relay from Olympia. The Olympic Fire is one of the most significant and striking of the ceremonial factors connected with the Olympic Games. It actually ignites during the opening ceremony and continues to burn night and day at the Olympic Stadium. The fire is put out when the flag is lowered at the end of the closing ceremony.

During the organization of Olympics in Berlin,Germany, it was seen that total ticket revenues were around 7.5 million Reichsmarks, with a nominal profit of over 1 million marks. The African-American Jesse Owens won four gold medals in the sprint and long jump events. Also Rie Mastenbroek of the Netherlands won three gold medals and a silver in swimming.
